Welcome to the Assistive and Instructional Technology
Lab
The Assistive and Instructional Technology Lab offers interactive activities to familiarize undergraduate and graduate-level students with many of the hardware and software applications that facilitate access for individuals with disabilities across the lifespan. The lab is available for all professors and students to use for the purpose of integrating assistive and instructional technology content into teacher preparation and doctoral training programs in the College of Education, and other courses campus-wide.

The
Department of Special Education is pleased to announce a gift of
$50,000 from the University Co-Operative Society to the
Assistive and Instructional Technology Laboratory. Mr.
George H. Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of the Society,
announced the gift during the fall semester. Faculty in the Department
and members of the Assistive Technology Committee wish to thank
Mr. Mitchell and the Society for their generosity. The technology
committee is actively purchasing badly needed hardware and software
to upgrade the lab's capabilities to offer students state-of-the-art
preparation in assistive and instructional technology.
Assistive Technology Lab Receives Funding from the Texas Center for Disability Studies/Texas Technology Access Program
The Learning Technology Center and the Department of Special Education are
pleased to announce that the LTC’s Assistive Technology Lab has received
$50,000 in funding from the Texas Center for Disability Studies/Texas Technology
Access Program. The funds will be used to update the lab’s computer
hardware and software and to expand its range of devices for alternative and
augmentative communication. The Assistive Technology Lab, at SZB 518E, displays
and demonstrates the use of specialized equipment to accommodate the needs
of those with disabilities. The Texas Center for Disability Studies/Texas
Technology Access Program advocates and supports the use of technology by
people with disabilities.
